Take the Day Off : Makeup removers

Celebrities, make up artists and the women with beautiful skin all advocate sleeping with a clean face. If they had only one beauty advice, it would be this: Take make up off before sleeping.

During sleep is the only time our skin has to regenerate and to rest. With our urban-professional, 21st century-work-hard-play-harder lifestyle, we never get enough sleep. So, we have to pay extra attention to our skin's health. At the most basic, our before-sleep routine should involve: a toner, a moisturizer, a gentle facial wash, but before anything else, a good makeup remover.

I like using different make up removers. How do I choose which to use? Well, since night-outs end in the wee hours of the morning, I can barely change to jammies much less employ my sleepy brain-cells. I simply choose by... proximity. I keep a bottle of make up remover and cotton balls in my bathroom, in my room, and in my cabinet. And I makeup-remove wherever the urge gets me. Of course, i use different brands. Why would i want to be redundant?

And so, here are the 3 brands that I am using right now:

Estee Lauder Gentle Eye Makeup Remover
It's a soapy concoction that immediately emulsifies without rubbing. It is light and not oily at all.
I like that  it is strong enough that with one swipe, all my eye make up is gone. No intense swiping needed. We wanna take the makeup off, not our faces. It also leaves the skin feeling tight and smooth.
Clinques Take The Day Off
Because it does take the whole day off: lids, lashes and lips. It is also strong enough that you don't have to rub till kingdom come but this one's oil-based.

Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil
Everybody loves Shu...Me? Not so much. At least not the cleansing oil. And I've tried most colors.
The way to use this is to put a few drops on dry hands, massage on dry face, wet hands and massage face again. This will make the oil turn milky white, emulsify it. It is a gentle, mineral oil based remover however, i find it too oily.  I have to wash my face 2-3 times to remove the lingering oiliness. The oil even gets into my eyes and coats it with a film of oil! Also, I rub, swipe, rub and still look like a raccoon after washing. I'm just finishing up my bottle and will replace this one soon.
